Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic, is also a speech writer. Feminist Frequency hosts videos, commentaries and analysis of the way in which popular culture portrays women. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and American feminist media critique. Feminist Frequency - a not-for profit educational site that explores the representation of women in pop stories of culture - was created and is directed by Sarkeesian. Aiming to dispel the myths related to women in popular culture, she has also been working on issues related the harassing women targeted by the media and other classes of people online. Sarkeesian also holds a York University master's in social theological, philosophical and political thought. Apart from being a popular public speaker, she's given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO XOXO Conference and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Passionate about issues of gender identity and feminism from the age of 7, she started her site Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was studying at the university. An ambitious woman who wanted to start a web-series examining the representation of gender in video games, she was targeted by an online campaign. The incident did not deter her, but instead strengthened the determination of feminist media critic. Numerous awards have been awarded to her for all of the contribution she has contributed to. Anita Sarkeesian is an award nominated media critic as well as the creator of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization focused on the portrayal of women in pop media narratives.
